Art historian Anne Wagner will explore artist Anthony McCall’s engagement with memory and loss. For McCall, time is of the essence. The question is how to represent it, now that the age-old tropes of skull, scythe and hourglass have had their day. In considering the artist’s expansion of the means of time’s depiction—an expansion that rested on his development of a new graphic language.
