Community Lecture Series: Death and Dying—Ethical Considerations and Art-Based Interventions

In this virtual workshop, Lisa Furman, PhD, ATR-BC, LPC, will provide an art-based psychotherapeutic model for palliative and terminal illness care within the context of ethical practice. Ethical challenges in end-of-life care will be discussed. Participants will receive an overview of palliative care assessment domains as well as evidence-based population and culturally-specific interventions grounded in the creative process. Case examples using art-based interventions will be provided.


Lisa Furman, PhD, ATR-BC, LPC holds a doctorate in counseling and psychology as well as board certification in art therapy. Dr. Furman has over 30 years of clinical and administrative experience working with children and families in New York City and Connecticut. She is the director of the Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling Program at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Connecticut, and she has also taught in the graduate art therapy programs at the School of Visual Arts and New York University. She has presented at numerous conferences and workshops on the topics of art therapy ethics, research and practice. Her book, Ethics in Art Therapy: Challenging Topics for a Complex Modality, was published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers in London.
