MPS Art Therapy presents a talk with Lisa Furman, PhD, ATR-BC, LCPC, on the ethics of tele-counseling: safe practice in remote art therapy.

This talk will provide an overview of ethical principles and best practices for safe, professional art therapy tele-counseling, with practical strategies for addressing confidentiality, boundaries, and digital challenges in remote art therapy.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify at least three core ethical principles (e.g., confidentiality, informed consent, professional boundaries) as they apply specifically to art therapy tele-counseling.
  2. Analyze potential ethical challenges unique to art therapy tele-counseling (such as privacy in digital communication, verifying client location, handling emergencies remotely, art materials safety, sharing artwork) and evaluate appropriate responses consistent with professional codes of ethics.
  3. Apply ethical decision-making models to case scenarios in art therapy tele-counseling, demonstrating strategies for maintaining client safety, confidentiality, and professional integrity in a remote setting.
