BFA Visual & Critical Studies (VCS) is pleased to present "Extra-Strength Pain Relief," a show independently produced by 13 VCS seniors that share a studio space at SVA, on view at Rogue Space Penthouse, 508 W 26th St, 12th floor, New York, NY. They spent the last year living and working together, developing a strong sense of community through artistic practice.

The art institution holds many contradictions at once. This body of work is influenced by those contradictions, offering a look into the artists’ collective and individual psychological landscapes. There is no aesthetic commonality among the artists’ works, but art cannot be separated from the psyche that creates it and the artists hanging in this show are psychologically bound by their time spent together. As many an artist can attest, art is rarely a cure, but it can be a powerful form of relief.

This, if anything, is what the show is about: the undefinable bonds we form, the pain we carry into the art we make and the relief that both our relationships and work bring, even without producing a true antidote.

Featuring the work of CJ Anasoulis, Hank Hatia, James Bowles, Catherine Brothers, Vilma Clausen, Adi Dahlke, Nia Del Pino, Emiri Fujimoto, Julianna Ham, Kyra Husbands, Donghyun Park, Noelani Tomicick and Yiran Xu.

Free and open to the public
