Exhibition

SVA presents “Future Utopias,” an exhibition of multidisciplinary artwork by 12 current students from BFA 3D Animation and Visual Effects, MFA Computer Arts, and MFA Products of Design, curated by Xiaoyue (Sawyer) Feng (MFA Computer Arts) and Bixuan Ji (MFA Computer Arts). The exhibition will be on view Thursday, February 16, through Thursday, March 5, at the SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street, New York City.

“Future Utopias” imagines new and speculative futures through a wide range of technology-driven practices. Bringing together artists from across several of the College’s academic programs, this student-curated exhibition considers how emerging tools reshape identity, materiality, and the idea of the “future body.” The diverse range of works on view includes computer-generated video, holographic imagery, AI-generated motion, digital fashion photography, 3D-printed bio-design works, hypothetical objects, and interactive installations. Rather than positing a single narrative, the exhibition presents a constellation of perspectives and ideas. Fusing suppositional design, fashion, worldbuilding, and computational arts, these emerging artists utilize their studies and cutting-edge technology to envision potential paths for humanity.

This exhibition was organized by the SVA Virtual Fashion Club and developed under the guidance of Rochele Gloor, Assistant Director for Innovation Technology at MFA Computer Arts and faculty member.
