MPS Digital Photography presents a talk with photographer Eric McNatt. With a career spanning two decades, McNatt’s work has been featured in a variety of publications including The New York Times Style Magazine, Vogue, ESPN: The Magazine, People, O’ The Oprah Magazine, Interview, Paper, Vibe, Spin and New York Magazine. His commercial portfolio includes collaborations with notable clients such as A&E Entertainment, Sony/Columbia BMG, NBC/USA Network and EURO RSCG (now HAVAS). Additionally, McNatt has engaged in artistic projects with luminaries like Yoko Ono (in conjunction with Gallery LeLong), choreographer Miguel Gutierrez (Whitney Biennial) and choreographer Sarah Michelson (BAM Next Wave Festival).

In 2009, McNatt’s work was showcased in the USA Network/NBC Character Project, published by Chronicle Books and produced by the Aperture Foundation. His contributions have earned recognition from the NY Book Awards and American Photography, with notable awards in 2005, 2006, and 2016. His photographs are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of the City of New York, the NY World Trade Memorial, and various private collections. Most recently, his work is featured in “Gorgeousness: A Summer Pride,” curated by Richard Renaldi at Benrubi Gallery NYC until Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

In 2016, McNatt served as the lead photographer for the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Hawaii, working with the company Ecodeo, where he continues to serve as the lead photographer. He remains actively engaged with social and political nonprofits, particularly those supporting the LGBTQ+ community, and teaches as an adjunct professor of photography at The Fashion Institute of Technology.

McNatt is a passionate advocate for protecting photographers’ copyright and attribution rights. He gained national attention in January when he, along with Donald Graham, became the first photographers to win a copyright infringement judgment against Richard Prince in the case, “ERIC MCNATT VS. RICHARD PRINCE, BLUM & POE, LLC.”

McNatt is currently developing his first photo monograph.

Starting in 2011 and after over 200 lectures, the i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration Lecture series continues to feature leading photographers, artists, editors, gallerists and industry experts. Our Fall 2024 i3 Lecture season is curated and hosted by MPS Digital Photography faculty member Julie Grahame. Most past lectures are available on YouTube and Vimeo.
