School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Illuminating Iterations,” an exhibition of senior thesis videos by BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation students. Curated by Brian Frey, Director of Operations, BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects, the exhibition will be on view Tuesday, April 12 through Monday, May 2, 2022, at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, 133/141 West 21st Street, New York City.
“Illuminating Interactions” hopes to evoke a sense of joy and discovery through movement. The thesis films by the BFA Computer Art class of 2022 will be projected on the wall, but as the viewer moves through the space, their actions—consciously or not—will start to trigger changes in the video. Drips, color changes and other distortions pile on each other to form digital artifacts on the projection.
After so much time online, “Illuminating Interactions” is an invitation to explore how much being somewhere in person can matter. The show invites guests to investigate how their presence affects the projected media, just by stopping by. Also on view will be posters for the films and a raw, unaltered version of the thesis work.
The SVA Flatiron Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00am–6:00pm. In accordance with SVA COVID-19 protocols, in-person viewing is open to SVA students, faculty and staff. Proper masking is required.
