In Praise of Wordless Comfort

Oct 25, 2013; 12:00 am

In this lecture, Dr. Helen Stein discusses why she chose art therapy over talking therapy to help her cope with her and her sister's concurrent cancer diagnoses, and why she felt that much of her experience was beyond words.

Stein, a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst, supervises psychology interns at New York Presbyterian Hospital and clinical psychology graduate students at the City University of New York. Previously, she was a consultant for the Center for Trauma and Resilience at New York State Psychiatric Institute on a project designed to enhance coping for 9/11 survivors. Her areas of clinical expertise are treatment of depression, personality disorders and trauma-related disorders. Presented by the MPS Art Therapy Department.
