In Their Own Words: The Legacy of Black and African American Artists

In honor of Black History Month, this intergenerational panel discussion of multidisciplinary Black and African American artists will develop a dialogue focused on the lived experiences of Black and African American artists, including themes of inspiration, identity, visibility, resilience, social justice and wisdom. Hosted by Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at SVA.


Participants include Michael Barclay lll (student, BFA Design), vice president of the SVA Black Student Union; Rob Fields, director of the Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art and StorytellingDr. Georgette Grier Key, director of the Eastville Historical SocietyTJ Sterling, comics creator and entrepreneur; designer, consultant, writer and educator Michele Washington (MFA 2011 Design Criticism); and Storm Ascher (BFA 2018 Visual & Critical Studies), artist, curator and entrepreneur.
