BFA Animation celebrates Rebecca Sugar (BFA 2009 Animation) and the release of their new album, Lonely Magic! Inspired by their formative years and cherished experiences as an SVA student, Sugar is returning to their alma mater to meet today’s students, who now sit where they once did. Sugar is bringing together friends and collaborators, as well as SVA alumni, to share their collective memories, creative journeys, and the story behind Lonely Magic.

This special invite-only in-person event will feature screenings of the three Lonely Magic music videos. The screenings will be followed by a panel discussion with Rebecca Sugar and fellow alumni Chris Burns (BFA 2003 Animation), Alex Myung (BFA 2009 Animation), and Ian Jones-Quartey (BFA 2006 Animation), who all collaborated on this extraordinary project. The discussion, moderated by BFA Animation Chair Hsiang Chin Moe, will explore how their time at SVA shaped their artistry and connection, culminating in this beautiful collaboration. The event will conclude with a special acoustic performance by Sugar.

While the in-person event is limited to invited guests from the SVA community, the public is warmly invited to join us online via livestream.
