Mutations calls attention to people’s lack of awareness of the pollution caused by the disposal of consumable items. The project’s images start with sculptures of sea creatures and other natural forms constructed from found items of trash, including coffee pods, fast-food containers, and electronics; these are then photographed and altered in digital postproduction. The project was inspired by the artist seeing the pristine beaches and natural environments of his childhood destroyed by tourists’ garbage.
