The students of the MFA Design for Social Innovation class of 2019 present their thesis projects. The show at SVA Theatre will be followed by a reception at MFA Design for Social Innovation, 136 West 21st Street, 5th floor. RSVP here.


This year, the MFA DSI graduates have developed brilliant projects that solve social problems and prepare them for careers as creative leaders. This thesis show will feature programs that:


-Enable white parents of multiracial children to instill in them a positive understanding of their racial and ethnic identity.


-Equip citizens with proven tools turning them into instruments of change.


-Tell the stories of shelter dogs in order to help find them forever homes.


-Guide citizens to support a community of immigrant women.


-Inspire young fashion students to develop sustainable design practice.


-Offer moms self-care opportunities to focus on their needs in guilt-free setting.


-Teach community advocates to design support for survivors of domestic violence.


-Help visually-impaired teenagers build relationships with their peers.


-Begin a conversation about condom-use for gay men in Beijing colleges.


-Tackle gaming toxicity and create a safer and more inclusive environment.


-Provide data analytics helping companies and working parents design a more equitable workplace.


-Create a civic engagement tool supporting grassroots activists to shape city policies.


-Create a supportive, judgement-free space for parents and their trans and gender-nonconforming children.


-Help Chinese artists increase economic opportunities by collaborating with New York designers.


-Support young people who have lost a parent to give their grief purpose.


-Provide client-based assessment for small businesses to improve the trauma-sensitivity of their spaces.
