MFA Fine Arts: 2023
Bona V is an American artist with Balkan roots. Her practice focuses on constructing visual narratives from Illyrian mythology and folklore using Acrylic paint. She renders stylistic techniques from the Ottoman Empire and the western Renaissance, which geographically positions the artwork within time and place. Moments of Illyrian art are interjected in each piece, where there is a surprise votive or identity marker. She utilizes conventions of art history to reconstruct and contextualize this visual past.
