M Sawyer Ballance is an Aries born during the year of the Goat in Minneapolis, Minnesota. When he was a child, his mother purchased him a pack of Popsicle Orange Burst Pop Ups®, however, he didn't like the way they tasted so he used them to draw on the back of his family's garage. During elementary school in Charleston, South Carolina, he incorrectly spelled “beauty” and swore to never misspell it again. In this way language and materiality play a significant role in M's artistic practice. He utilizes multimedia, poetry, painting and various mediums and materials to humorously reconcile his lived experiences and the psychology of the self through a post-modern lens.
