Practice Lecture Series: Phong Bui

MFA Art Practice presents a talk with Phong H. Bui, an artist, writer, independent curator and former curatorial advisor at MoMA PS1 (2007-10). Bui is also the co-founder, publisher and artistic director of the monthly journal the Brooklyn Rail and its imprint, Rail Editions. He was the host and producer of Off the Rail on Art International Radio (2010-15). He served on the faculty at Yale University, Columbia University and University of Pennsylvania as senior critic for their Master of Fine Art programs. Bui has taught seminars in the School of Visual Arts’ MA Design Research, Writing and Criticism program and MFA Photography, Video and Related Media program. Bui has received numerous awards, most recently including the American Academy of Arts and Letters Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts (2021) and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the Arts (2020). He is a trustee of Studio in a School, the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, Fountain House, Mildred’s Lane, Denniston Hill, Anthology Film Archives, the Third Rail, the Miami Rail, Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program, The Center for Fiction, Second Shift Studio Space of Saint Paul and AICA (2007-2020). Bui is also a co-founder of the Monira Foundation.
