Faith in Hell's Kitchen

test
Share

Faith in Hell’s Kitchen was inspired by the artist’s desire to shed light on an often-overlooked aspect of the neighborhood that has been his home for the past three years. Hell’s Kitchen is a vibrant, bustling area, widely recognized for its Broadway shows that attract audiences from around the world. Its numerous bars and restaurants are popular hangouts and provide a cosmopolitan flair to the neighborhood. Beyond these well-known attractions, however, Hell’s Kitchen has a quiet, spiritual side too— it is the home to nearly twenty churches, each with its own unique history and community.

These photographs are the culmination of hours spent exploring these sacred spaces, observing their day-to-day operations, and witnessing the vital role they play in the local community. They are not merely places of worship where people come to practice their faith. They are also sanctuaries in the truest sense of the word—places where anyone, regardless of their beliefs, can find solace, peace, and a sense of safety. These churches are an integral part of Hell’s Kitchen, adding another layer of depth to its multifaceted personality.
