Transcendental Landscapes

About the exhibition
SVA Continuing Education and Artist Residency Programs present “Transcendental Landscapes,” an exhibition that brings together 15 artists from the fall 2024 Artist residency cohort curated by Paige Beeber. Artists in the exhibition include Reginald Balanga, David Berger, Larissa Brum, Caro Dranow, Zeynep Elif Ergin, Miranda Greiner, Domino Leaha, Valeria Maldonado, Rosi Maria Di Meglio, Pat Marino, Chloe Scout Nix, Marianne van Ooij, Deniz Ozuygur, Charles Park, and Carol Updegrave.
“Transcendental Landscapes” invites us to reconsider the landscapes we inhabit—not only as physical terrains but as spaces of meaning, memory, and transformation. In a year marked by shifting climates and elemental power, these works trace the intricate relationship between the human spirit and the natural world, offering a vision of renewal and interconnectedness.
Through a rich array of forms and approaches, the artists explore landscapes as portals to something larger than themselves. Some focus on the small and intimate—a shadow cast across a wall, the texture of earth after rain—while others evoke the sweeping forces of nature, vast and unknowable. Together, these works speak to the profound interplay between the finite and the infinite, reminding us that every detail contains the possibility of a larger story.
This exhibition embraces a kind of seeing that transcends narrow views. It suggests that even as the natural world asserts itself with urgency, it offers a space for wonder and revelation. The landscapes here are not static backdrops but living, breathing entities—spaces of reciprocity where the external and internal meet, where we might reimagine our place in the world.
Together, these works speak to the profound interplay between the finite and the infinite, reminding us that every detail contains the possibility of a larger story.
