The BFA Animation graduate, creator of the beloved ‘Steven Universe’ series, will discuss their latest project, an album of original songs and accompanying music videos.

The School of Visual Arts and its BFA Animation program proudly welcome back alumnus and Rebecca Sugar (BFA 2009 Animation) for a special celebration of their recently released album, Lonely Magic. Inspired by their formative years and experiences as an SVA student, Sugar is returning to campus to reflect on the creative roots that helped shape their music, storytelling, and artistry.
On Saturday, November 8, SVA Theatre will host an invite-only event for the SVA community, featuring screenings of three music videos from Lonely Magic, as well as a panel discussion with Sugar and their collaborators and fellow BFA Animation alumni Chris Burns (2003), Ian Jones-Quartey (2006), and Alex Myung (2009). Moderated by BFA Animation Chair Hsiang Chin Moe (MFA 2008 Computer Art), the conversation will explore how their time at SVA shaped their artistic sensibilities and enduring creative partnerships. The event will conclude with a special acoustic performance by Sugar.
“Lonely Magic with Rebecca Sugar: Alumni Panel and Performance” will take place on Saturday, November 8, 12:00 – 2:30pm. While the in-person event is limited to invited members of the SVA community, the public is invited to watch the livestream on YouTube, bringing this celebration of connection, collaboration, and creativity to audiences everywhere.
