Ghosts, ghouls, and plenty of pop-culture icons filled the night as School of Visual Arts students showed off their spooky spirit at this year’s Halloween celebration. Hosted by the Visual Arts Students Association (VASA), SVA’s student government, the annual party took over Dave & Buster’s in Times Square on Thursday, October 23, transforming the venue into a lively mix of costumes, creativity, and camaraderie.
Students spent the evening playing arcade games, hitting the dance floor to DJs from WSVA (the College’s radio station), and cheering on the live band After Effect. A costume contest spotlighted some of the night’s most inventive looks—from eerie to elaborate—and the SVA Horror Society added its own twist with a DVD raffle and fun candy guessing game.
It was a frightfully fun evening that proved once again: no one does Halloween quite like SVA.
The costume contest winners were:
• First Place: Maia Torres (BFA Animation), as Mr. Ant Tenna.
• Second Place: Steven Vargas (BFA Animation) and L. Aquilone (BFA Animation), as The Two Guys Carrying a Giant Glass Pane
• Third Place: Ryan Mierzejwski (BFA 3D Animation & Visual Effects), as Elizabeth Ashe from the video game Overwatch.
