Welcome to our community at the School of Visual Arts. SVA is an inclusive and compassionate community, where all are welcome regardless of nationality, religion, race, or sexual orientation.
Starting with Orientation week, Student Affairs supports many aspects of life at SVA by creating an experience that is both relevant and exciting for the student body to participate in while utilizing the infinite opportunities New York City has to offer. Student Affairs encompasses the offices of Residence Life, Student Engagement and Leadership, Disability Resources, and Student Health and Counseling Services. Whether you are a new student or a seasoned member of the community, there are many ways to connect with the campus community and enhance your student experience at SVA.

Registering to vote is a great way to become an active member of your NYC/NY State communities and participate in local and state elections! Information about registration deadlines can be found here. Learn more about Ranked-Choice Voting here.
To register to vote in the Empire State, New Yorkers must:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a resident of NYS and the county, city or village for at least 30 days before the election
- Not be in prison for a felony conviction
- Not be adjudged mentally incompetent by a court
- Not claim the right to vote elsewhere

Civic Engagement Resources
- 5calls.org provides contact information for government agencies and representatives at the local and federal levels, as well as information regarding active initiatives. The site provides detailed information and suggested scripts on points for consideration, so sharing your concerns and opinions is quick and easy. You can filter active issues by location as well.
- Constitution Day is celebrated annually in September and commemorates the day in 1787 when the U.S. Constitution was signed at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. To learn more about the U.S. Constitution visit the U.S. Senate website, or pick up a free pocket-sized edition at Student Affairs (340 East 24th Street).

How to sign up for Student Pass:
- Log onto your school website
- MyID.SVA.Edu
- Search for the NJ TRANSIT tile/app to be redirected to the NJ transit registration page.
- Note, there are two tiles/app; one for new enrollees (create account) and one for returning enrollees (re-enroll).
- Students are required to enroll each semester for the discount.
- Follow the steps on screen to complete the registration and verify your student information.
- Then download the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App and enter your Student Pass login information
The discounted student monthly pass is available exclusively through the NJ TRANSIT Mobile App.

1. Is there a meal plan?
SVA does not offer a meal plan. Moe’s Cafe is an on campus dining facility which offers a meal card. Students can email moescafe@sva.edu for more information.
2. Where can I find information about SVA and campus policies?
The SVA Handbook is a living document that can be accessed on its dedicated page.
3. How do I apply for scholarships?
The office of Financial Aid can assist with scholarship related questions. Contact fa@sva.edu for more information. Additional information about SVA Tuition and Fees is available on the SVA website.
4. When do I have to pay my bill?
The office of Student Accounts can assist with questions regarding billing and payment. Contact studentaccounts@sva.edu for more information.
5. How do I waive the student health insurance?
The office of Student Health and Counseling will be able to provide you with more information on how to waive the student health insurance. Contact health@sva.edu for assistance.
6. How do I sign up for housing?

7. Where do I go to obtain an enrollment verification?

8. Can I defer my enrollment?

10. What do I do if I need to make changes to my schedule?

11. How do I know what supplies I’ll need for my classes?
Your instructors will provide you with information on the materials you will need for the semester.
