A New Chapter for the School of Visual Arts

The School of Visual Arts has entered the next chapter of its history. Building on a legacy of educational excellence in the arts under the ownership of the Rhodes family, and following nearly a decade of preparation, the SVA Alumni Society began leadership of SVA through its Board of Directors on September 1, 2025. SVA and the Alumni Society are aligned in their commitment to SVA’s mission to educate future generations of global creative citizens and agree that this transition will further that mission. SVA administration, staff, and faculty will continue their roles in the ordinary course, and we do not anticipate any changes to day-to-day life for students.

  • The SVA Alumni Society is a nonprofit scholarship foundation established in 1972. For decades, the Alumni Society has been supporting SVA students through grants and scholarships and representing the interests of SVA alumni in the United States and abroad. Given its unique, SVA-focused mission and longstanding goals in support of SVA’s educational programs and community, the Alumni Society is ideally suited to provide a seamless continuation of culture, values, mission, and goals.

  • For current students, the transition to Alumni Society leadership will not impact your enrollment status, your current academic program, or your progress toward your degree. You will continue to be enrolled and attend classes in the same manner as before. We do not anticipate changes to SVA faculty or administration as a result of the change, and SVA’s educational offerings and degree programs will continue uninterrupted. Further, there will be no changes to SVA’s campus as a result of the change.

  • For prospective students, the transition to Alumni Society leadership will not change your application requirements, enrollment process, or admissions criteria. SVA’s current educational offerings and degree programs will continue uninterrupted.
