I fabricate a visual diary of my experience, now and then. Growing up in Kenya, traditional hyper-masculinity was something I was raised around. Now, I see it as toxic. I explore my black body through mirrors, trying to assimilate the tension brought by “what it means to be a man” and still be tender. Dutch painting plays a role in my work: I am inspired by the pellucid light and attention to detail, and use similar motifs to visualize my ideas.
