Registrar Services

  • In order to enter campus buildings, students, faculty, and staff must have a valid SVA ID card. If you do not have an SVA ID card or need a replacement, please complete this form and you may pick up your card at the Registrar’s Office when it’s ready. If you have trouble accessing the form, log in to MyID and select the SVA ID Card Request Form tile.

Please note that there is a $20 fee to receive a replacement ID card.

  • Enrollment verification letters are provided to students free of charge.

    Request Online or by Email

Current students and alumni may submit an enrollment verification request by logging in to MyServices, then clicking on the “Enrollment Verifications” link on the home page. You will need to log in to your MyID account to access MyServices.

Students who do not have access to MyServices may request an enrollment verification by completing the Transcript/Enrollment Request form and emailing it to registrar@sva.edu or mailing it to School of Visual Arts, attn: Registrar, 209 East 23rd Street, New York, NY 10010.

    Third-Party Requestors

If you are not a current or former student at SVA and you would like to obtain verification of a student’s enrollment or any degree(s) received, please submit your request to the National Student Clearinghouse here or by mail at the following address:

    National Student Clearinghouse

2300 Dulles Station Boulevard, Suite 300

    Herndon, VA 20171

If a former student has provided you with a digital copy of their SVA diploma and you wish to verify its authenticity, please visit this page and enter the unique 12-digit Certified Electronic Document Identifier (CeDiD), found on the upper left corner of the diploma, into the validation search.

  • Legal Name Changes

Requests to change a legal name must be accompanied by appropriate documentation (such as a court order, marriage license, federal/state ID, etc.). Students may submit a Legal Name Change Form with the Registrar. Faculty and staff members may contact Human Resources to change their legal name.

Any student, staff, or faculty member may officially declare a chosen name to be used where possible across campus.

Chosen names will be reflected wherever possible, such as on the following SVA records:

    • Grade rosters
    • Attendance rosters
    • SVA ID cards
    • Mid-term evaluations
    • SVA email display name*

A legal name may be required for some records, including student transcripts, financial aid documents and student invoices, payroll records and tax documentation. Note that official correspondence from the College may use a person's legal name.

Individuals may complete a Chosen/Preferred Name Declaration Form with the Registrar. Current students, alumni, staff, and faculty members may update their chosen names (as well as other personal identity details) in their MyServices User Profile.

Changes to a chosen or preferred name will be made in the College’s main database system within 24 hours, but it may take additional time for the name to be reflected in other systems across campus.

    * To change the name that displays when you send emails from your SVA account, follow these instructions. Note that SVA usernames cannot be customized. See the SVA IT username policy for more details.

    Pronouns and Gender Identity Options

Current students, alumni, faculty, and staff members may declare their pronouns and gender identity by accessing their MyServices User Profile and selecting the “Edit Personal Identity” button.

An individual’s pronouns will display prominently on faculty members′ class and attendance rosters.

To protect individual privacy, gender identity declarations are not displayed on class rosters, nor are they disclosed to any third party without the express written consent of the individual.

  • Current students and alumni may submit a diploma replacement request by completing the Diploma Replacement Form. You will need to log in to your MyID account to access the form.

Students who do not have access to MyID may request a diploma replacement by emailing commencement@sva.edu with their name while attending SVA, student ID number (if known), program, dates attended, type of degree, and address to which they would like the diploma sent.

  • If you require a document to be notarized, such as an official transcript or diploma, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 212.592.2200 or for additional information.

Note that the Registrar’s Office cannot advise on the international apostille process or perform steps in the apostille process beyond the production and notarization of a document. It is an individual’s responsibility to follow the apostille procedures outlined by the Department of State Office of Authentications.
