Continued Benefits for Alumni

  • Please note: As of September 2, 2025, there has been a change regarding Grammarly and LastPass accounts; it is explained below.

Alumni Affairs is providing this information on behalf of IT. If you have any questions about this or need assistance, please contact SVA IT at or via the Helpdesk tile on MyID.

Read on to understand the services that alumni lose access to soon after you graduate from SVA, as well as the services that you maintain access to as an alumnus with your SVA credentials.

Note: SVA does not issue alumni ID cards.

Access to the following SVA-hosted services ends August 31 of your graduation year:

    • Adobe Creative Cloud
    • Box (For the class of 2026, onward; see below for the policy for the class of 2025.)
    • Google Drive
    • Microsoft 365 (Office, OneDrive)
    • SVA MediaSpace

You must back up all of your content from Google Drive, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft 365 OneDrive and SVA MediaSpace before the August 31 deadline. All data hosted on those platforms will be purged after the deadline. Data recovery and extended access after the deadline are not available options.

Note: After you lose access to MediaSpace, you can still request recordings and/or slide decks from any past virtual workshop recording by emailing SVA Career Development at .

Access to the following MyID apps, SVA-hosted services, and campus spaces also ends on August 31 of your graduation year:

    • Grammarly Premium*
    • LastPass Premium*
    • LinkedIn Learning
    • SVA Library and its databases
    • Zoom

*Note: For Grammarly and LastPass, there has been a change. Premium subscriptions will no longer be converted to free versions. Effective as of September 2, 2025, these accounts will be removed per the vendors' specifications. You will need to backup any LastPass or Grammarly data before the deadline. Any questions or concerns about this can be sent to IT at .

After August 31, you will continue to have access to these services via SVA MyID:

    • Box (Extended for a limited time for the class of 2025; see details below**)
    • Canvas LMS
    • @sva.edu Gmail and Google Calendar
    • Perpetual access is not guaranteed and is subject to the discretion of SVA and its relationship with vendor partners such as Google.
    • SVA IT Helpdesk
    • MyServices
    • TouchNet Student Accounts

For anyone who does not graduate, all services will cease after August 31, including Box.

Note: SVA’s campus spaces are prioritized for use by current students; for this reason and per institutional security protocols, alumni are not allowed general access to campus buildings and facilities. For alumni to access campus, a visit must be arranged in advance with a specific department at SVA. The alumnus must be registered as a guest in SVA's visitor management system by the sponsoring department before their visit. For information on requesting access to SVA Library, click here.

**Box details: Access to cloud storage on Box will end one year following graduation. SVA has three graduation periods; see the list below for annual end dates for access to Box. (Note: This policy applies only to the class of 2025 and prior years. For the class of 2026, onward, Box will expire on August 31 of your graduation year.)

    • Winter (February graduation): Extended access to Box concludes on February 1, the year after graduation
    • Spring (May graduation): Extended access to Box concludes on May 1, the year after graduation.
    • Fall (September graduation): Extended access to Box concludes on September 1, the year after graduation.

All data hosted on Box will be purged following the respective February 1, May 1, and September 1 end dates. Prior to that deadline, content must be migrated from their SVA Box account to another cloud service, a personal Box account, or a local storage device. Data recovery and extended access are not available options.

One year following your graduation date, you will receive an email notifying you that SVA will be migrating your account to a personal account. IT recommends adding a secondary non-@sva.edu email address on your account before your account migrates to a personal account. Fifteen days after you receive that email, your account will be automatically migrated to a personal account with a 10 GB quota. If your account contains more than 10 GB, it will become read-only until you delete enough content that you are below this quota or you purchase additional space from Box. After your account has been migrated, IT recommends changing the primary email address so that you continue to receive notifications from Box.

  • How do I access the SVA applications that I maintain access to as an alumnus?

To access the applications you maintain access to as an alumnus (which are listed and explained in the previous section), you must log in to the SVA network with MyID, SVA’s single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) system.

Go to myid.sva.edu and log in with your SVA credentials. Follow the prompts to set up your account and configure the various MFA security factors. For additional detail, a step-by-step account setup guide is linked here and a step-by-step instructional video is available here

Once logged in to MyID, you can jump to any of the applications from the dashboard and be signed in automatically.

What are my SVA MyID credentials?

Your SVA MyID credentials are the username and password you were given as a student to log in to your SVA email and other applications supported by the College. Your SVA MyID credentials remain active after you graduate and you can use them to log in to SVA supported apps.

I don’t remember my SVA credentials, I didn’t have them as a student, or I’m having trouble accessing my account.

Send a request to Alumni Affairs by filling out the SVA MyID / @sva.edu Email Credentials Request form. When your MyID credentials issue has been resolved, a staff person from Alumni Affairs or IT will contact you at the non-SVA email address provided on the form. Please allow up to five business days for these requests to be processed.

Note: As of June 1, 2024, SVA IT has made updates to MyID’s multi-factor authentication process in order to enhance security. If you encounter any difficulties logging in to your account due to this change, please fill out the SVA MyID / @sva.edu Email Credentials Request form linked above and a staff member from Alumni Affairs or IT will assist you.

Where can I find additional information about accessing MyID?

Click here for additional information about MyID from SVA IT.

  • As SVA alumni, you are welcome to visit the SVA Library’s main location at 380 Second Avenue, and take advantage of on-site resources. (See a full list of available resources in the next dropdown menu item.) Alumni do not have access to SVA Library West.

Per institutional security protocols, you must register ahead of your visit in order to access the SVA Library’s main location, and you will need to bring a photo ID to verify your identity. See below for instructions and an explanation of the process. You will not be granted access unless you have followed these steps before your visit.

Note: If you are an alumnus and are also an SVA employee (faculty or staff member) or are currently enrolled in a degree program at SVA, you already have access to the library with your SVA ID and do not need to follow these steps.

Step 1: Make sure you have SVA MyID credentials and an @sva.edu email address.

You will need a @sva.edu email address to access the SVA Library’s main location. If you do not have a @sva.edu email address, or if you are unable to access your account, visit the “SVA MyID and @sva.edu Email Access” dropdown menu item above and follow the instructions outlined there. Once you are granted access to SVA MyID and your @sva.edu email, you may continue with these instructions.

Note: All communications regarding the SVA Library access process will be sent to your @sva.edu email address for security purposes. The emails will be coming from alumni@sva.edu; add this email to your contacts to prevent messages from going to spam. Be sure to check your @sva.edu email throughout this process, including your spam folder.

Step 2: Sign in to SVA MyID and fill out the Library Access form.

Log into your MyID dashboard using your SVA credentials and click the “Alumni SVA Library Access Request” tile. You will be directed to the SVA Library Alumni Access Google Form; fill it out and submit it.

Alumni Affairs will verify your request and upload you into Splan, SVA’s visitor management tool.

Step 3: Wait for your SVA Library access confirmation email from alumni@sva.edu.

Once you have been added to Splan, you will receive an email from Alumni Affairs (alumni@sva.edu) with the following information:

    • Confirmation that access to the SVA Library’s main location has been granted
    • Your access start date and expiration date
    • The SVA Library’s main location address and a link to hours of operation
    • What to expect when you arrive at the building

Once you receive your confirmation from Alumni Affairs, you will have access to the SVA Library’s main location during open hours until the end of the current academic year. You will be able to renew your access annually.

Step 4: Visit the SVA Library’s main location at your leisure.

Each time you visit the SVA Library’s main location, you will have to check in with SVA security to receive a day pass. When you arrive at 380 Second Avenue, go to the 2nd floor and have your photo ID ready for check-in with the SVA security officer. At the check-in kiosk:

    1. Select “New Registration.”
    2. Select “Contractor Visit.”
    3. Select “Manual Registration.”
    4. Tap into the Contractor Name field.
    5. Type in your first and last name, as you entered them in the form. Your name/registration will appear. Select your registration.
    6. Click next, and the kiosk will take a photo of you for your day pass.
    7. A screen will appear noting that you have been registered and checked in successfully. Click “I am Done” to finish.

The security guard will then check your photo ID. If everything is in order, the security guard will give you your day pass and direct you to the SVA Library. (Note: Day passes cannot be reused. You must check in and get a new day pass each day that you visit the library.)

    Additional Information

Access requests for SVA Library's main location will be processed twice weekly on Monday and Thursday mornings. Requests must be submitted via the form by Monday or Thursday at 9:00am in order to be processed that day. Once your request is processed, you will receive a confirmation email stating that you have been granted access to the SVA Library's main location. You will continue to have access through the end of the current academic year.

If you wish to continue accessing the SVA Library’s main location after your expiration date at the end of the academic year, you will need to renew your access. In June, Alumni Affairs will send an email to all those registered for library access, giving them the option to renew their access for the next academic year.

Being approved via this process will grant you access to the SVA Library’s main location at 380 Second Avenue, 2nd floor, ONLY. You will not have access to any other SVA campus locations.

Note: SVA Library’s main location access for alumni is coordinated by SVA Alumni Affairs, SVA Library and SVA Security. Any of these offices reserves the right to suspend or revoke an individual’s access to the SVA Library at any time.

  • As SVA alumni, you are welcome to pre-register to visit the SVA Library’s main location at 380 Second Avenue, 2nd floor, and take advantage of on-site resources, such as:

    • Collections of books, periodicals, reference volumes and more
    • Note: Alumni may not check out books or other materials from SVA Library, but they may reference them on-site.
    • Online databases (Instructions for access are available here.)
    • The Picture Collection (over 300,000 images on 1,350 topics)
    • Computers/Internet
    • Wifi (Connection instructions are here.)
    • Printers and copiers, using Papercut (see instructions below)
    • Scanners that connect to your SVA email or a flash drive

SVA Library computers are equipped with applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Blender, Apple Pages and Keynote. You are free to use these applications if you have your own personal login credentials for them. SVA does not provide alumni with accounts for these applications.

Note: Alumni do not have access to SVA Library West at 133/141 West 21st Street.

    Using Papercut to Print

To print at the SVA Library, log into a computer with your SVA MyID credentials. When your desktop appears, you will see a small message window from Papercut, showing your balance. To view your account details, add a payment card or load more money to your account, click on the link in the message window that says “Account Details.”

If you do not see a message window, begin printing your document as you would normally; Papercut will open and ask you to log in. You should enter your SVA MyID credentials that you used to log in to the computer.

You can also access Papercut by going to myid.sva.edu and signing in with your SVA credentials. On the dashboard, click the Papercut tile to open the app and be signed in automatically.
