Uprising



Rather than take the usual documentary approach to the issue of gender inequality, the photographs in Congying Miao’s Uprising explore it with an abstract, concept-based visual language. The series is divided into three parts. The first of these addresses the stereotype-based social expectations placed on both women and men; the second illustrates the objectification that results from these expectations; and the third symbolizes the rejection of traditional roles and behaviors, along with the freedom it provides.
