Design today is increasingly defined by systems, not screens. As digital products expand across platforms and teams, designers are expected to contribute to scalable structures that support consistency, collaboration, and long-term adaptability for design, development, and agentive AI. This course explores systematic design through a blend of lectures and hands-on workshops. Students will examine the foundations of design systems-tokens, components, and variables, and consider how automation and structured workflows enable design at scale. Over the semester, students will build a functioning design system, gaining experience in creating reusable libraries, applying semantic principles, and documenting patterns with precision. The skills developed in this course align with current practice across leading design teams and anticipate the evolving demands of digital product work.

Prerequisite: A basic understanding of Figma.

Note: Students must have an active subscription to Figma (free with your SVA account) for the duration of the course. All students with an active registration in this course will be given free access to the Adobe Creative Cloud. This course is fully online and offered through synchronous sessions during the listed course hours.
