Risograph printing uses a vibrant, stencil-based process similar to screen printing but with the automated ease of a copy machine. Originally intended for office use, Risograph duplicators have been embraced by independent publishers, zine makers, photographers, illustrators, cartoonists, graphic designers, etc.,-all attracted to quick and dynamic, quality editions on paper. Through a variety of assignments, students in this course will learn numerous printing techniques, and how to apply them to their practice. There will be a strong focus on Risograph operations, including changing drums, manipulating print settings, color registration and how to achieve the best possible print results. Analog and digital demos will be covered: printing techniques, Adobe Photoshop file setup, zine basics, and more. We will explore various color palettes, textures, and paper to get the best results. The final project will be to develop a self-generated print project (series, zine, etc.). Open to students at all levels.
